Lab Multi Mill for R&D and Size Reduction

Multi Mill is used for high speed Granulating, Pulverizing, Mixing, Shredding and Chopping etc. of a wide range of wet and dry materials without special attachments. As compared to the four common principal of reduction, i.e. grinding, compression, impact and shearing, which do not produce controlled size machine utilizes the principle of variable force swing hammer blades having both knife and impact edges rotating reduction, this with a carefully selected screen to control size reduction. The Lab Multi Mill is used in laboratories for research and development due to which it is also known as R&D Multi Mill. It is also known by the names Mini Multi Mill, Small Multi Mill and Compact Multi Mill due to its small and compact size.

Flow path of material in vertical rotor machine is streamlined. During comminuting, material entering the chamber travels to the periphery and passes through the screen tangentially and radially avoiding chocking and temperature rise.

The multi mill is most suitable for dry pulverization of lumps to small particles to small particles of the desired size by high shear action. The compact multi mill offers a high degree of automation, safety, and stable performance. The unbeatable range of R&D multi mill is a very affordable and mobile tool for dry and wet granulation as well as pulverizing, mixing shredding, and chopping. A unique feature of this machine is that a wide range of wet and dry drug materials can be added to this industrial machine without the need for special attachments. It is a very elegant, compact, and proven design model and can be used with less electric power.

Lab Multi Mill FAQs

It is a compact, versatile laboratory-scale size reduction machine that uses a high-speed rotating impeller with interchangeable blades and variable screen sizes to mill, grind, and size-reduce pharmaceutical granules, Ayurvedic herbal materials, nutraceutical powders, and cosmetic raw materials — delivering precise and reproducible particle size reduction for R&D, formulation development, and small-scale production applications.

The material is fed into the milling chamber where a high-speed rotating impeller fitted with knife or impact blades strikes and reduces particles — with the milled material passing through a selected screen mesh to achieve the desired particle size — with coarser particles recirculated until they pass through the screen, delivering consistent particle size distribution.

Particle size directly impacts pharmaceutical tablet dissolution, bioavailability, blend uniformity, and granule flow properties — a lab multi mill allows R&D scientists to precisely control and optimize particle size during formulation development, granule sizing after wet granulation, and API micronization studies at small batch scales before committing to large-scale production milling.

Yes, it is widely used in Ayurvedic manufacturing and R&D for size-reducing dried herbal plant materials, botanical extracts, multi-herb powder blends, and classical Ayurvedic formulations — delivering consistent particle sizes that improve blend uniformity, tablet compression performance, and dissolution characteristics of Ayurvedic herbal tablet and capsule products.

Absolutely — nutraceutical companies sizing vitamin granules and mineral compound materials, and cosmetic manufacturers milling natural pigments, botanical color additives, and natural powder cosmetic raw materials use lab multi mills to achieve the precise and uniform particle sizes required for consistent product quality and manufacturing performance.

The lab multi mill performs wet granule sizing after rapid mixer granulation, dry granule sizing, dried herbal material milling, pharmaceutical API de-agglomeration, nutraceutical vitamin and mineral particle size reduction, cosmetic raw material milling, and sugar milling — making it one of the most versatile size reduction tools in pharmaceutical, Ayurvedic, and cosmetic production.

Lab multi mills are supplied with a range of interchangeable screens — typically from 0.5 mm to 10 mm mesh aperture size — with smaller screens producing finer particle sizes and larger screens producing coarser granule cuts, allowing operators to precisely select the target particle size distribution for each specific pharmaceutical, Ayurvedic, or nutraceutical application.

Yes, it is manufactured with GMP-compliant SS 316 product contact parts — including the milling chamber, impeller, blades, and screens — with smooth mirror-polished internal surfaces and easy disassembly design — meeting Schedule M, WHO-GMP, and AYUSH regulatory material, hygiene, and equipment standards for licensed pharmaceutical and Ayurvedic size reduction operations.

Knife blades use a cutting action best suited for fibrous herbal materials, dried botanical matter, and tough pharmaceutical granules requiring cutting rather than impact — while impact blades use a high-velocity striking action preferred for brittle pharmaceutical granules, crystalline materials, and free-flowing nutraceutical powders requiring particle fracture rather than cutting.

After wet granulation in a rapid mixer granulator, the wet mass contains large agglomerates that must be sized through a multi mill screen before fluid bed drying — the lab multi mill breaks these wet agglomerates into uniform granule sizes that dry evenly in the fluid bed dryer, producing consistent granule physical properties for tablet compression.

Yes, the multi mill's rapid high-speed milling action and minimal residence time in the milling chamber minimize heat generation and moisture exposure for sensitive Ayurvedic herbal materials — with the option to pre-cool the feed material and operate in controlled temperature environments for particularly moisture or heat-sensitive botanical actives and herbal extracts.

Reducing herbal material to uniform smaller particle sizes improves powder blend homogeneity, enhances inter-particle bonding during compression, increases tablet hardness, improves surface area for faster dissolution, and ensures consistent active ingredient distribution in every tablet — all critical quality parameters for Ayurvedic herbal tablets meeting AYUSH pharmacopoeial specifications.

Yes, the multi mill features quick-disassembly product contact parts — milling chamber, impeller assembly, blade sets, and screens — all removable without tools for thorough cleaning and sanitization between different product batches, supporting validated cleaning procedures required for multi-product pharmaceutical and Ayurvedic size reduction operations to prevent cross-contamination.

Yes, dried fluid bed granules often contain oversized agglomerates and fines that require post-drying milling through a multi mill screen to achieve the target granule size distribution — the lab multi mill efficiently sizes dried granules to the desired particle range that delivers optimal flow, die fill uniformity, and tablet weight consistency during compression.

Lab multi mills include interlocked chamber cover safety switches that prevent impeller operation when the milling chamber is open, overload motor protection, anti-vibration mounting, and enclosed drive systems — ensuring safe operation in pharmaceutical, Ayurvedic, and nutraceutical size reduction environments while protecting operators from rotating impeller components.

Variable speed control — typically adjustable from 1000 to 3000 RPM — allows operators to optimize impeller speed for different material hardness, friability, and target particle size requirements, with lower speeds preferred for fragile Ayurvedic herbal materials and soft pharmaceutical granules, and higher speeds used for harder crystalline materials requiring more intensive size reduction energy.

The lab multi mill has a compact benchtop footprint requiring minimal laboratory space — operating on a standard 220V single-phase or 440V three-phase power supply with no compressed air requirement — making it ideal for pharmaceutical R&D laboratories, Ayurvedic formulation centers, nutraceutical development facilities, and small-scale production rooms with limited space and utility resources.

Using a lab multi mill with the same milling mechanism as production-scale multi mills allows R&D teams to develop and validate milling parameters — screen size, blade type, impeller speed — at laboratory scale that can be directly transferred to production multi mills during scale-up, minimizing reformulation risk and accelerating technology transfer timelines for new pharmaceutical and Ayurvedic products.
