Vial Filling Machine History

Whether you are filling vials, bottles or jars, you need to find the right machinery to perform the process. You can choose from a variety of different models, features, and specifications. You can also customize the machine to meet your needs.

Aseptic filling machines can protect the product from contamination during the filling process. These systems are often used to pack pharmaceutical products. They can be purchased or rented. Choosing a manufacturer with good response and service will help you avoid problems and increase your productivity.

These fillers have multiple heads that allow for faster operations and increased productivity. The number of heads can range from two to twelve. They may also have a touchscreen user interface or foot pedals. These units are also available in both liquid and lyo versions.

Lodha Pharma has designed their filling machinery to be able to handle a wide range of products. They have several capabilities that include freezing, sterilization, and freeze drying. They can close vials with a non-slip disc. They can reject poorly fitting stoppers before sealing.

In addition to the automatic and semi-automatic models, there are manual fillers that are ideal for pilot runs. These machines feature pneumatic power and can be pedestal raised or portable.

These filling machines are equipped with a safety guard that protects the conveyor gearbox. The gearbox is made of stainless steel.

Vial Filling Machine Working Principle

Having a vial filling machine can help you reduce the risk of losing liquid and improve your production output. However, these machines are not cheap and you should take into account the risks and losses that can occur.

When using a vial filling machine, you need to know the basic operating principles. This can make your job easier and faster. It is important to be able to work with the machine properly, so that you can produce a high quality product.

There are three basic components of a filling machine. They include the hopper, the pump, and the storage tank. The hopper is used to store the paste or fluid that is to be filled. The piston pump moves the fluid or pack gas into the vial. The pump can operate at different pressures.

The pump is driven by the motor. Once the machine is turned on, the inlet cylinder retracts to block the inlet. When the motor is turned off, the outlet cylinder expands to allow the fluid to flow.

The filling machine can be used to fill a wide variety of liquid products. They can be used in industries such as food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals. Depending on the type of liquid that needs to be filled, these machines can vary in size.

One of the most common machines is the vial filling and stoppering machine. These machines are most commonly used to fill 1ml to 100ml vials. These types of machines also have a safety guard to ensure that the process is safe.

Faq's

It is a fully automatic machine that simultaneously fills precise volumes of liquid into glass vials and inserts rubber stoppers to seal them — in a single, continuous, synchronized operation. It is the core machine of every pharmaceutical injectable liquid manufacturing line, ensuring sterile, accurate, and contamination-free vial filling and sealing.

Empty vials are fed via an infeed turntable onto a Delrin slat conveyor. They move under volumetric filling nozzles that dispense the exact fill volume, then advance to a vibratory rubber stoppering unit where rubber stoppers are automatically placed and pressed onto the vial neck — all in one seamless, synchronized line. Filled and stoppered vials exit through the outfeed turntable for transfer to capping.

The LI-LVF handles round glass vials from 1 ml to 100 ml — covering the full range of standard pharmaceutical injectable vial formats used across liquid injectables, vaccines, biologics, ophthalmic preparations, and Ayurvedic parenteral formulations.

Lodha offers multiple variants to match different production scales:
  • LI-LVF 2 (2-head): Up to 60 vials per minute
  • LI-LVF 4 (4-head): Up to 120 vials per minute
  • LI-LVF 8 (8-head): Up to 240 vials per minute
Actual speed depends on liquid nature, vial neck size, fill volume, and rubber stopper size.

Yes. The entire machine is constructed in full stainless steel finish including the frame structure, as per cGMP guidelines. All liquid-contact and rubber stopper-contact parts are exclusively made from SS 316 — the pharmacopoeially mandated material standard for injectable manufacturing equipment. The machine is designed to operate in sterile environments and supports IQ/OQ/PQ validation protocols.

It is built for all liquid injectable formulations — antibiotic injectables (ceftriaxone, piperacillin-tazobactam), antifungals, analgesics, oncology/cytotoxic injectables, biologics, vaccines, ophthalmic sterile liquids, and veterinary injectables — in both single-dose and multi-dose vial formats.

When no vial is detected under the filling nozzle, the machine automatically stops filling — preventing product spillage and liquid wastage. If the vial feed is interrupted, the machine stops completely — protecting the sterile filling environment and preventing contamination of adjacent filled vials. Both features are critical GMP process control requirements.

If the rubber stopper supply runs out or the vibratory stoppering unit fails to deliver a stopper, the machine automatically stops. This prevents filled vials from exiting without a rubber stopper — which would render the entire batch unacceptable and create a serious sterility assurance failure. It is a non-negotiable safety feature for injectable manufacturing.

The LI-LVF is available with two stoppering configurations:
Standard Stoppering System: A fixed pressing roller presses the rubber stopper vertically down onto the vial neck — reliable, straightforward, and suitable for standard-speed lines.
Vacuumetric Stoppering System: Uses vacuum-assisted stopper placement for more positive, precise stopper seating — particularly recommended for higher-speed operations and for stoppers that require confirmed-depth insertion, such as slotted stoppers used in lyophilized product vials.

Yes. All SS 316 contact parts — filling nozzles, piston and cylinder assemblies, and rubber stopper contact components — are designed with an easy removal system specifically for autoclaving, sterilization, and CIP/SIP cleaning between batches. This is mandatory for injectable manufacturing compliance under Schedule M, WHO-GMP, and EU GMP Annex 1.

Yes. The LI-LVF is designed to operate under a Laminar Air Flow (LAF) unit — the machine's compact filling and stoppering zone is specifically sized to minimize the LAF canopy area required, reducing the cost and complexity of your clean room setup. The vibratory stoppering unit is built-in and positioned to minimize LAF dead ends — reducing the risk of turbulence-induced contamination within the critical zone.

Yes. The machine supports pre-fill and post-fill nitrogen gassing (N₂ flushing) as an optional feature — essential for oxygen-sensitive injectable formulations where even trace oxygen exposure during filling causes API degradation, colour change, or potency loss. This covers a wide range of antibiotic, oncology, and biological injectable products that mandate inert atmosphere filling.

The diving nozzle descends into the vial from the top and begins filling from the bottom up — keeping the nozzle tip just below the rising liquid surface throughout the fill cycle. This eliminates air turbulence, prevents foam generation, and ensures the liquid fills the vial without splashing onto the vial neck or stopper seating area — critical for clean, contamination-free injectable vial filling.

Yes. Ayurvedic parenteral formulations classified under Schedule T of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act are subject to the same sterile injectable manufacturing requirements as conventional pharmaceuticals — including validated vial filling and rubber stoppering processes. For Ayurvedic manufacturers building or upgrading a sterile liquid vial line, the LI-LVF is the required core filling equipment.

Absolutely. Ayurvedic ophthalmic preparations — medicated eye drops, Triphala-based eye solutions, and herbal ophthalmic formulations — are sterile liquids filled into small-format glass vials (5 ml to 15 ml). The LI-LVF's 1 ml to 100 ml vial compatibility, diving nozzle foam-free filling, and SS 316 contact parts make it a fully appropriate and GMP-compliant choice for Ayurvedic ophthalmic vial filling lines.

Yes. With full SS construction, SS 316 contact parts, autoclavable components, LAF integration compatibility, "No Vial – No Fill / Machine Stop" controls, and Lodha's ISO 9001:2015 manufacturing credentials, the LI-LVF supports regulatory submissions for WHO pre-qualification, EU GMP, GCC ESMA, and USFDA-regulated export markets — giving your Ayurvedic sterile products the manufacturing credibility that international buyers and regulators require.

Yes — for cosmetic manufacturers producing premium ampoule-format products in rubber-stoppered glass vials. Single-use cosmetic ampoules — hyaluronic acid serums, vitamin C concentrates, anti-aging treatment ampoules, and hair keratin ampoules — are increasingly sold with rubber stoppers that consumers puncture or remove before use. The LI-LVF fills and stoppers these cosmetic ampoules with the same precision and cleanliness standard as pharmaceutical injectables.

The rubber stopper is placed by the vibratory stoppering unit and pressed by a fixed pressing roller that moves vertically — applying controlled, consistent pressure that seats the stopper correctly without crushing the vial neck or forcing stopper fragments into the product. For premium cosmetic ampoules where stopper integrity directly affects product quality and consumer experience, this controlled pressing mechanism is a significant quality assurance feature.

Yes. The machine includes a safety clutch system specifically designed to prevent vial breakage — when resistance above a preset threshold is detected (for example, a misaligned or fragile vial), the clutch disengages to stop the mechanical action before breakage occurs. This protects thin-walled premium cosmetic glass ampoules from the mechanical damage risk that can occur in machines without this vial protection feature.
